The project

External data sources, cleanly integrated

Weather Cast fetches live weather data from OpenWeatherMap and shows forecasts for the current location as well as for any place in the world. The city search is powered by the Google Places API — the same search that drives Google Maps.

The project demonstrates a requirement found in almost every business app: reliably integrating multiple external services and presenting their data quickly, robustly and clearly — even with fluctuating network quality.

  • Automatic location detection — forecast for your current place right when the app opens
  • Worldwide city search — find places via the Google Places API
  • Favorites — save favorite places and manage them in a dedicated tab
  • Detailed forecasts — today, hourly for 48 hours and daily for 8 days
  • Live data — current measurements from OpenWeatherMap
  • Local storage — favorites and recent data stay available without internet
